Relocated from HOT January to MILD April!.....RELOCATED AGAIN FROM A COOL BUT FIRE-AFFECTED APRIL TO A COOL NOVEMBER!.A 4-5 day walk to Cowombat Flat, the source of the Murray, start of the 'Dotted Line' State border, and a visit to The Pilot, the first big mountain in Kosciuszko NP. Beautiful remote country, much wildlife, kangaroos, emus, feral horses.  see maps and descriptions below!

(Days 1 and 2 can be combined with an early start from AW - drive from AW and walk 13.0km) Day 3 (SUN 1/11) daywalk to the first cairn on the dotted line border, and the source of the Murray R., explore the Flat, swim in the baby Murray, play interstate cricket (12ks) Day 4 (MON 2/11)  climb The Pilot, 1828m magnificent views of Kosciuszko to the N, the Victorian Alps to the W, the Cobberas just over the border (14ks, daypacks, 600m climb) (Days 3 and 4 can be swapped if we like) Day 5 (TUES 3/11) walk back to cars (12ks), drive home. Medium walking with pack, undulating 4wd track, part of the Alpine Walking Track. Day walk to the source, and border cairn is mixed going through bush, the climb to the Pilot from the track is 30 minutes of thick, steep rocky going. Contact me for more info 0429017229 or websterm@netc.net.au. This is a perfect walk for those who wish to push their packs on a golf buggy or similar - I will! Limit 12 people. More info see pp 153-157 'Australian Alps Walking Track book by Chapmans and Siseman.

This is a remote area and people need to be confident they can carry enough food and equipment for 3-4 nights, although you're only carrying it all for the 12km walk in along the jeep track.. There is very limited mobile coverage (only on top of The Pilot in fact).

You will find a list of what to bring here - https://murrayvalleybushwalkers.org.au/index.php/risk-management/event-management#WhatToBring .

You should print out the maps and information below here ( and also bring any other maps of the area you have!)

ADDED EXTRA!  You can also join us on The Pilot on Day 4, if you walk down from Dead Horse Gap in Kossie NP - night 1 to Cascade Hut, 2 to Tin Mines, 3 to Pilot and Cowombat Flat, 4 out to the roadhead. But you will need to arrange space in a vehicle from there to get home, and also transport to Dead Horse Gap.. For details of the N access to Cowombat Flat see my description of the walk I led here in January 2018 (https://murrayvalleybushwalkers.org.au/index.php/leader-info/events/my-events/event/2229-cowombat-flat-grade-4-extended-bushwalk )

Minimum subscribers for either walk 4, maximum 12. If Cowombat Flat is not accessible by Easter due to fire damage, the Club will offer an alternative multi-day bushwalk.
